Alabama Woman Shoots Home Invader 3 Times; Cops Catch Second Perp Shortly Afterwards
7-19-2014 / Article by Amanda Camacho
An Alabama woman who said she had no intention of being a victim to yet another robbery of her home shot an intruder in the head on Friday as her granddaughter cowered in fear.
When two intruders broke into her Prichard, Ala. home, Phyllis Law, 63, scrambled to retrieve her 9 mm handgun and an extra clip, she told WALA.
Next thing I know, he hit the lights and put all the lights on and Im saying to myself, This person has been here before to know where all my lights at, she recalled.
Law moved towards the living room while her granddaughter hid in a closet at the back of the house.
He just comes strolling, walking around, she told WALA.
By the time
He was right here I saw the blue jogging basketball pants he was wearing. And when he got there I jumped up and just started shooting. I have no idea where I hit him. He fell right there on the floor there.
Law fired three shots total, hitting the intruder in the head. As he moved towards an air conditioning unit, Law fired again. The injured intruder survived, while the other fled the scene. He was later apprehended by police.
Law, who boarded up the windows of her house after a previous burglary in which jewelry and electronic were stolen, said that she had no plans during the recent incident to wind up a victim.
They come in on people, she said.
When theyre coming in, you dont know what they have on them. A lot of them come in peoples house, kill you, take what they want and leave. Well, like I said, not here. No, no they are not going to walk in here. They did enough, she said.
As police arrived outside of her home, Law said she removed the clip from her gun and grabbed her ID before walking outside. Police ordered her to the ground and handcuffed her. She was released without being charged.
Law said she now keeps a loaded shotgun on her kitchen counter.
Comments;
I think the NRA should set up a fund to help folks like Ms. Law get some real expert training in marksmanship, and also on how to best deal with home invaders; with proper training, she could have easily "rid the world" of both of those POS. The woman definitely has aptitude for it, but she just needs a bit of proper training. Also, if she hit the perp in the head with even 1 round from a 9 X 19, she must have been using solid point rounds......poor choice for home defence.

I agree Jake, but just think how effective she would be with a little training! I think the NRA could do it's self, all of us, and people like that lady a lot of good if they would just spend a few bucks and help a few people like that who have gone through an experience like that.

Here in Connecticut an NRA course is required before you can get a permit to carry or purchase a pistol. As an instructor the course is 8 hours long and live fire is required.

Here in Indiana, you are not required to take a course to get a permit; also, you are not required to have a permit to purchase a gun, but you are required to have a permit to carry a hand gun, either open or concealed. In the county I live in, probably 80% of households have pistols, rifles and / or shotguns for home protection; we also have very few burglaries and almost no home invasions.
Even though anyone holding a CC permit is allowed to carry openly or concealed, I see almost no people in public carrying openly when I go to Terre Haute, which is in Vigo County. I was discussing with a clerk at the hand gun counter in the Gander Mountain store the other day what % of people that you see on the street in TH did he estimate might be carrying; what he told me was this; that in addition to Gander Mountain, there are at least 4 or 5 more gun dealers in TH that normally sell 50 or more hand guns per week; and judging from the fact that probably 90 to 95% of the hand guns sold are sold to CC permit holders; so a very substantial proportion of the people you normally see in public are carrying a hand gun. With the numbers of hand guns owned and carried regularly by many citizens in this area, I don't recall the last time I've heard of an accidental discharge, or anyone being accidentally shot by a CC permit holder; most of the crime that we see in the 4 county area adjacent to Vigo County involves the making, use and selling of meth-amphetamine.

Before Sandy Hook if you did not have a permit there was a 2 week waiting period to purchase. Now one is required. Now you have to have a permit or a new long gun card to purchase ammunition. The hoops we have to jump through got higher and smalller.

I prefer a 45 with hollow points! Frank will be happy though because now they can go to trial and get back out in the near future. The criminals will also, in all probability, file a law suit against the home owner.

It does indeed make one wonder about our convoluted Justice System infested with sleazy shysters and judges! (who were former sleazy shysters)
As Steven Wright opines;
99% of lawyers give the rest a bad name!
