Why should death be gloomy? To me it is a time where one (the dead) can say: I am done! and go gleefully where ever, as the dead guy/gal has no earthly trouble to deal with. Imagine a ghost laughing, running in circles, jumping up and down, flapping its arms in delight! (That would be me)

For the survivors, who knows what the reaction is. Relief? (I know some here would love to learn I died). Sadness (Like you apparently) but is this sadness justified? When my first wife was killed I wondered why she was and why I was left alive. Then I realized that I was glad she died because she did not have to deal with what I dealt with, that she is likely happier now than ever before (some will really appreciate this comment: She did not have to deal with 'HIM' - meaning me).

For those who believe, is not death a step closer to what you believe in? So why cry unless one is jealous and would have loved to meet his/her maker first...

For those who do not believe, is not the end of senseless life a good thing?

Anyway you look at it, death is joy. It is also recycling, I know a bunch of critters would rejoice having so much food! Then again some will cut that primitive joy by selecting cremation.

All points of view, if you ask me. So gloom? Nah.
