5D III & Tamron 150-600mm

I just got my 5D a week ago. I am still playing with it trying to learn it. I put the Tamron 150-600mm lens on it for the first time this morning.

I got lucky at my feeders this morning and had a cardinal, blue jay and a Black-capped Chickadee come in.

I have always had trouble getting a good shot of this Chickadee because of its coloration. The gray and blacks seem to run together and the eye tends to disappear in the black head. Here are a few photos I got this morning. They are among the best shots, if not the best, I have ever gotten of this bird. It looks like this lens is going to work well on the 5D!

What do you think? C&C welcome!

I think you could lower the ISO a couple clicks, compensate with the shutter and/or f/stop, and get a picture without the grain. Color, contrast and focus are right on - I like #3 the best.

Sony,

I agree. Sense I just got this camera and this is the first time I paired this camera/lens I am still playing. I have been told this camera handles noise very well. I know I would have been fine at ISO-1600 with my 6D but see this camera doesn't do quite as well. I am going to drop the ISO to 1250 -800 to see what happens.

It is the color and contrast I was pleased with. This lens seems to handle them well.

Hi oldtool2,
first of all I congratulate you for having 5d mark iii. I have this camera for the last two year. It is nice camera. Now about your pictures of the bird. I see they are very sharp. I am little concern with one thing. I see lot of noise in the background. This camera can handle high ISO without noise. I have some concern with my camera as well that I too get noise but not that much as you got. One day I will put up this question in the Main discussion section. Don't take me wrong. It is a great camera. It is a camera that some people dream to get one. I have also been thinking to get 150-600 lens but not decided yet. I have here one question that did you do too much sharpening on these images.

No, I don't think I sharpened them too much. Here is one of the photos just cropped, no other PP done.

I have noise reduction turned off, maybe I should turn it back on?

Hi Jim D. Yes, you might try using the noise reduction. It may not be as good if you doing long exposure, say from 15 seconds to 30 or more as the camera might take same amount of time to get rid of the noise. So if your exposure needs 30 seconds it might take another 30 second to correct the noise. Still I will suggest to talk to one of the Canon expert. May be what I am telling you about the noise, it might relate to some other thing. You can use the noise reduction in photo shop or lightroom.
