downloaded it and just finished installing it. adobe just turns me into a zombie, terms i've never heard of, did i mention i find it to be massively counter intuitive? i envy you folks who can decipher the complexity and make it work. but nx-d fits my desire for simplicity to a T. opened it up, putzed around with a couple of raw files and i think it will do all i want and am capable of at this time

Does NX-D replace View NX-2 when installed or do you have both now? I too have trouble with Adobe & have been using View NX-2 but wish there was a noise reduction feature. Are the features much different from View NX-2?

i have nx-2 but never used it, i've been using native windows simple editing. from memory nx-d does have a noise reduction slider, it was set on auto and the photo i was messing with looked ok so i didn't mess with it

Capture NX-D replaces Capture NX-2 in Nikon's software lineup.

NX-2 was written by NIK software which was then sold to Google. Then Nikon lost (or squandered) the rights to NIK's software and had to come up with something else. NX-D is the result.

NX-D uses a completely different user interface and RAW processing workflow. In Capture NX-2 all editing changes were saved within the NEF file while in NX_D changes are saved in a sidecar file. Nikon lost the Control Point feature from NIK which made editing so powerful in Capture NX-2.

At this point NX-D is not much more than a RAW converter with very limited editing capability.

In my opinion Nikon should at least add the ability to install plugins like the Adobe products to make this a usable product.

NX-D is still lame vs. NX2 in my opinion. Missing features of NX2 include selection & color control points, D-Lighting and support for NIK Color Effects Pro plug-in. Sadly NX2 will no longer be upgraded to support new cameras and operating systems. The new Nikon D810 does not have NX2 support and using NX-D instead abandons many key NX2 tools.

Opening a RAW file previously edited with NX2 requires starting over in NX-D if you wish to modify the prior edit and the NX2 features mentioned above are lost.

Very true Walt!

I've been using NX-2 almost exclusively for my edits and I am appalled how Nikon out of the blue just dropped support for their product and abandoned their loyal user-base.

I switched brands after Canon abandoned their FD-mount.

Maybe the time has come to move from Nikon to another
brand which actually caters to their customers.
