Can't close file in Elements 10

A couple of days ago I opened a photo from "pictures" to Elements 10 & it is still on there. In the organizer there is a picture of a gold lock with "edit in progress" across the photo. I was going to do some minor pp. under the "guided" section but changed my mind & decided to cancel, however the photo is still there & I can't work on any other photos until I close the file. I went to "file" & clicked on "close file" & close all files but it is still open. At this point all I want to do is get it off & maybe work on another photo. Any help/advice would sure be appreciated. I'm certain it is my ignorance :oops:

Have you shut down the program and/or rebooted?

Can't get the program to shut down but I will definitely try the reboot. Thanks for responding.

Windows Control + Alt + Del
Open Task manager and close the program that way - safer than a reboot

I rebooted & closed that way but I will remember this in case there's a next time. Thanks for the info.
