A friend on mine was mentioning to me about doing time-lapse photography with my camera. I never heard of this before. I thought time-lapse had to be done through video. Is this possible. As my camera only does still photography how would turn this into video. I hope this isn't a stupid question. Thank you for taking the time. john

I don't see where your D80 can perform 'Interval Timer Photography'. My D5100 can be set with a 'start time', 'time interval', and 'number of intervals'. I used this to make a time lapse video of our bathroom remodel job. I made the video with Windows Movie Maker at 8 FPS.

You can do timelapse with any dslr. If the camera doesn't have a built-in intervalometer, you can buy a plug-in one for about $20. I am just starting to play with this, on a Canon T4i. There are a bunch of tutorials on youtube about how to do it, *and* how to process the results. I am using PS CC, but it can be done with other software.

Keep in mind that a video is nothing more than a whole bunch of single photos shown in rapid succession. Your first project could be shooting clouds moving in the sky on a windy day. Take one photo every 5-10 seconds and take maybe 30 or 40 shots. The when you view the shots, flip through them as fast as you can and you will get the idea. (then view them in reverse for a twist) When taking the shots I suggest putting your camera in manual mode so the exposures don't shift between shots. If that exercise tweaks your fancy then you can think about getting the necessary peripherals but be cognizant of your wallet and life partner.

Yes, you can shoot time laps with about any camera, but you need an interval timer for it.
