Nikon D 7000 Battery Question

I have been having a curious issue when recharging my D 7000 original battery. Regardless of how long I leave the battery on the charger, it only charges to 65%. I went into the camera store from which it was purchased and they said they have not seen this issue, nor did they know of a bulletin from Nikon with the issue mentioned. If anyone else has experienced this issue and has any information I would appreciate a response. Thank you for any help you may provide.

You may want to try running it completely flat then charging it.

Thanks, I will attempt to do that. However, since I carry my camera with me while commuting up and down the Androscoggin river in Northern New Hampshire I will probably have to buy a spare battery.

A spare battery is a "must" !!

Buy Nikon, not brand X

Like Itako said, you defiantly need a spare battery.

Make sure it is not one of the recalled batteries. Do a search on the battery. Completely discharge (not normally recommended) recharge solid light and then let it cool if it is warm to the touch before using. Check the battery status in the battery menu what does it show (new old etc) If still problems it is probably time to replace.

Mr. T. Thank you. The menu still indicates the battery as new. I did check the recall numbers. It is not a recall battery. I will completely discharge the battery. Why is total discharge not recommended?

Normally with Li batteries you want to go to about 10 to 20%. Going lower does something to the battery. I found this article that explains it much better.

If the camera is still showing it as new maybe it has a calibration problem. There is a second link in the above article.

Good luck hope this helps.

Battery University, interesting. I wonder if you can charge the tuition. Thank you.

Nikon has a battery recall. Check the serial number on the link above.

I have 2 batteries for the D7000 and have had no issues.
That is the price I paid for each of them, also.
Good luck.

The important this is how long it lasts. How many pictures can you get on a full charge? Maybe that 65% estimate is really 100%, but the camera is not reading it accurately. Reviews show that you should get about 900 shots on a charge. I've never taken that many shots in one day.

Thank you. I am thinking that the issue is as jerryc41 described because I have no issues with running out of battery life. The problem may not be with the charge but rather an incorrect reading of the percentage of charge.
