Strange dirt on a Nikon Coolpix P7100 lens

The P7100 is my wife's point and shoot. I noticed that the lens had a lot of dust particles so I got out the lens cleaning kit and discovered that the dirt is on the INSIDE of the front element.

Has anyone else encountered this problem either on the P7100 or any other lens?

The lens is an "extending" type lens. When you zoom the lens it extends creating space and the vacuum draws in air from around the lens to occupy that space. Air has dust in it, ergo, dust gets inside the lens, just a fact of life with an extending type lens, nothing you can do about it.

I've seen dirt, dust and fungus inside lots of lenses in all price ranges. Unless it's adversely affecting your image quality, don't worry about it. I have a couple Canon lenses with dirt and deep scratches on them and the pictures don't show it....I bought them dirt cheap because the sellers couldn't stand having a less than perfect lens on their cameras...their loss, my gain.

OK, that makes perfect sense.

Thanks
