I found more Mayfly larvae, some mosquito larvae, a beetle the size of a speck of grit and a few unknowns. All too small and a challenge for my 105mm without tubes.

I think four and five are photos of a very early instar of some kind of hemipteran. You can see the tiny proboscis in the download of no. four.

Nicely done Brenda, I think you are onto something here. Very interesting captures not often presented by macro photographers.

Oh, thanks gym for that. I will look up hemipteran on the internet. I had looked but there were so many I got bedazzled.

I agree tinusbum but last year there were masses in the little pond and I had to treat the water to get rid of them and this year there are much less so I think the other insects are helping to a good degree.

I had a dilemma yesterday. I hate mosquitoes and always strive to free the world of them but after that one posed for me yesterday I felt some gratitude and sympathy and couldn't kill it. However, when I got bitten this morning in the garden I regretted my decision.

Thanks A-Peer, I am finding it interesting as there is a myriad of insects in fresh water and I can sit at a table in the garden with my white tray of pond water and have hours of fun without being too far away from tea and cakes. It is certainly less physically demanding than chasing birds around in this heat. While I was out there a beautiful Scarce Swallowtail butterfly passed through - nb. they are not actually scare, its just a name.
