Sorry to hear about your PC.
I've always put my own together and (knock on wood) have had few problems that weren't Windows related. In all these years I think I've had one HD give up and one DIMM?
I think my next one will be an iMac but LORD do they know how to charge for them!!

It was a tongue in cheek statement, though I do have a new laptop with Win 8 which I now really regret buying.

Mac's are expensive, but I know of people who are still using the one they purchased 10 years ago with no problems. I have had mine for 3 years and it does not need to be replaced. When we bought Microsoft computers after two years they needed or had to be replaced.

I learned Windows on Win 3.1, Win 5, Millenium, XP and Win 7.

I taught many people how to use Windows up to XP.

I have had my Win 7 machine for 2 years and am still leaning new tricks.

Win 8 - is a complete and total mystery to me. The search facility has to be brought out of hiding, the Switch off buttons are hidden. The user profiles are hidden. Everything is In Hiding. If I happen to find what I am looking for, it seems to disappear and I have to search all over again. the screen will for no apparent reason split itself into two. Just as I got used to large "apps" showing on the opening screen, they changed into (fewer) small apps.

As soon as I can, (when my wife lets me) I am going to partition the disc and install Win 7 (if I can find out how).

Win 8 is an abortive attempt to make screens look like Ipad screens.

I know some like Win 8, but I know a lot more who wish they had never come across such a pathetic interface.

your windows problems.... I had them for 20+ years....tired of fighting it...converted to all MAC.... a learning curve that was quick to concur.....still have things to learn.......but at least I can talk to an Apple guy at the store or over the phone, and not talk to someone in Pakistan or india

Funnily enough, I subscribe (financially) to the Microsoft support system and if I speak on the phone, it is always to someone in the USA and I often stumble over the language barrier. Microsoft technicians speak in acronyms and since I pay the full price for support I require full words in return - not abbreviations.

I helped my daughter shop for a new PC. She got an HP with Windows 8.
I know exactly what you are talking about. I used to be the family and neighborhood computer guru. With the advent of Windows 8.....well I have no idea what the hell it's trying to do most of the time.

I think I remember reading that there was a way to get rid of all the "touch screen" looking stuff and get back to a Windows 7 type GUI.
