Aperture to Lightroom

As most of you who use Aperture are aware, Apple will no longer support Aperture but use some other software, Photo (something) or another. However, as a backup I've been thinking of using Lightroom. I am finding that converting from Aperture to Lightroom, and having all your files moved is not so easy. Anyone have any experience with doing this?

Saw this article online yesterday that might help you. I'm a computer guy, mostly Windows, not a lot of Apple. The Apple people seem to think their machines never need service, so how would I make a living? Hope this gives you a few pointers. http://photofocus.com/2014/07/07/10-things-aperture-users-need-to-know-about-lightroom/

I use Aperture 3. I'm waiting until the new Photos comes out next year before I decide to move to Lightroom or not. I see no advantage to making the move right now. Apple has said they are working with Adobe to come up with an easy way to make a transfer. No need to rush.

I agree, i.e., no rush--just planning ahead. Thanks, MFM

i use aperture all the time and love it…hope they don't end up doing the same thing they did with iDVD and some of the other programs i used to use ..why fix what ain't broke???

No file moving necessary.

Lightroom "acquires" files in one of several ways (you choose)

1.) add them to the catalog without moving

2.) copy them to a new location

3.) move them to a new location.

I think that while Lightroom will acquire the original files, any adjustments that have been made to those original files will be lost. Maybe what Apple is trying to work out with Adobe is a way to transfer the originals and the adjustments. I don't know if that is it, just speculating.
