Really Weird Bug

Looks like some sort of Leafhopper.... Sending an image to Bug Guide for an ID... The one image has a small ant in it for a size comparison. I found them on Black Eyed Susan stems...

Actually, I turned the image to the right in post. The stem was vertical.

WOW! Very nice series! I thought I was lucky when I found one.
According to my Kaufman field guide, they are Tree hoppers (Entylia carinata) & often tended by ants so you have captured the whole story.
Great series & great photos!
They look like a chainsaw tooth to me.

Thanks for the ID. Looks to be spot on. I almost didn't take any images of them at first. It wasn't till I put an image up on the monitor that I realized they were insects. Needless to say, I went back out into the backyard & got some more shots.

Wow! Scott... this is an really different bug. I agree with the "treehopper" assessment. I don't know what kind it is, but take a look at this link... there are some really weird treehoppers in this world.

Very interesting critters. First shot with the ant tending the hopper is nice, good looking eye.
