When you get tired of all the noise and confusion, try the north of the Seven Mile Bridge in Marathon. Not that far from Key West and the sunsets are just as spectacular and a lot less crowded. We tried it three nights.
Marathon is famous for a recent developer, who bought a waterfront lot, and started to fill in the water front, to the point that he created an island, and built a dozen or so homes on this island. Marathon did not have any regulations about filling in the ocean, so he got away with it. My wife's aunt and uncle use to own a small diner right on the Main drag in Marathon. They have both passed on by now, and they were the ones telling the story about this developer. Marathon is about 45 minutes out of Key West.
You might also want a heads up a lot of places in Key West are clothing optional.
