That's right - Virgin Airlines has created a glass bottomed plane.

Photographer's delight, or passenger's nightmare?

Guess Virgin is off my list of airlines if I ever fly anywhere again.

This is an idea that's not gonna fly ! lol
I doubt any design engineer would want
to put his name on this one !
Good publicity stunt again from the man with
more money than brains though !
I would suspect this plane "simulates" a glass bottom plane....
which is absolutely possible with enough money thrown at the project ! 8-)

Did you see the article about the glass bottomed view platform on the Chicago sky scrapper that starting cracking while people were on it? Story concluded with "The glass didn't crack, it was a protective coating to prevent scratchs that cracked."

If this were true, it'd give a whole new meaning to the phrase, "fear of flying."

Used to be the Sears Tower, but ever since Willis bought it it's always referred to as "The Willis Tower", formerly known as "The Sears Tower"; (I'm wondering if they'll ever just start calling the damn thing "The Willis Tower"? )

Here's what I'm REALLY worried about.......what if "The Donald" took a notion to buy it? He would of course have a giant, 50ft high sign that said; "The NEW Trump Tower", formerly "The Willis Tower", and before that "The Sears Tower".

BTW......the last time the wife & I were there, I was going to pay the fee and check out the "Sky Box", but the wife is scared silly of anything higher than a curb; You don't need to worry about the glass box breaking while you're on it though.......the thing is strong enough to hold ten big fat girls and their ten fat boyfriends!

Well, I'm with your wife. If I can see a slope I'm OK mostly. No slope or straight, forget it. Even a good photo or film/video can get to me. However being in an aircraft it seems to go away. Even riding in a copter with my feet out the door and one arm through a cargo net while my right hand held my M-14 "just in case". We did a roller coaster down a mountain with three ridge lines at 10 meters above the tree tops going flat out and it did not bother me. Go figure!

That means there's less room for stowing luggage, etc. Nice concept, but doesn't make sense.
