White Pelican and GBH fighting over a fishing spot

These photos were taken about a month ago when the river was flooding into where we mow. The Heron was getting a lot of small fish here. I think the fish were feeding where the current was light and the fish liked the grass clippings.
The Pelican landed close to the GBH and swam closer then the fight happened...the GBH won
D7100 with 18-300 nikon lens. These were taken early morning and the low sun made the water blue. I did crop and a little pp.

Thanks....it was interesting to see this pelican scoop up a mouthfull and river water to get his fish.

With a mouth like that he could have scooped up the heron

Super shots! Even though I've seen both birds, I just didn't realize how much larger the pelican is - and the GBH is already a big one. Amazing!

Thanks Linda....I never see pelicans here this time of year, mostly see them as they fly north in the spring. A few have been hanging out here this summer.
