But I Thought It Was OK To Leave The Fire

People never cease to amaze me! After setting the pile of storm debris on fire, and burning it down, a homeowner on our island decided it was OK to leave and go to their home several hours away. After all, it was just smoldering. There were three Fire Departments that responded. Luckily the fire only took two sheds and left their vacation trailer alone. One shed and its contents were completely destroyed, the other badly damaged, but we were able to save some of the things inside. There was one bright spot - a neighborhood Labrador found a whole bunch of new playmates that threw her pinecones to chase.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your support, and so do the other guys and gals in the Fire Department. It's a hard and dangerous job. I posted some more pictures since the first of you replied, and you may want to take another look to see the whole set.

Great photos, great set

I have a brother in law who is a member of a voluntary fire dept. The guys didn't always wear all the gear but he did, all the time at every fire, all the gear. They were called to a shed that was on fire. When they got there the shed's roof was completely engulfed. He heard a dog inside and went in. The roof collapsed with him inside. The fighters said they started going to get him. He stood up in the middle of the smoke and fire, with the dog. They said it was like he was rising from the dead. From then on they all wear all the gear to every fire.
It is extremely exhausting work and it takes hours of training with all the 'toys.'

No.'s 4, 6, and 8 really capture the severity of the conditions so graphically, and No. 10 is my very most favorite--love the fireman standing where the sun beams are coming through the smoke. Beautiful coverage of a dire situation, ME!

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment. I'm the only one who is allowed on the fire scene not in full gear. Thank your brother-in-law thank you for his dedication to his community and to be careful.

Thanks for looking. I have tried to become a better "artistic" photographer, but I guess my heart is with documentation. I appreciate your kind comments.

Thanks for the thumbs up, which means a lot coming from you. I got lucky with the time of day and the angle of the sun with the shot in #10, but it was very smoky and gave me some great opportunities.
