Looking for lens recommendations for Nikon D610

I recently pulled the trigger on a D610 and am loving it. The kit (24-85mm) lens isn't bad but I am thinking I want to mostly use prime lenses for this camera.

I just put a Sigma 105mm on order and it should be here by July 9th. I picked the focal length because it is out of the range of the kit lens so I thought it would be a good starting place.

I am looking for recommendations for normal and wide lenses.

I will be shooting just about anything but want to do:

Events (such as weddings)
Street photography
buildings and landscapes
Portraits (people and pets).
Some sports.

I am thinking of the Sigma 35mm Art series lens next.

Any suggestions?

The Sigma 35 is a good idea. My feeling by limiting yourself to primes lens you lose lots of chances for great shots. I do suggest the following lens to cover all you might shoot.
Tamron 24-70 (f/2.8)(wide angle and street), Tamron 70-200 (f/2.8)(sports), Nikon 28-300(walk around).
And I'm sure many will disagree with me. Good luck!!

I can understand the preference for prime lenses, I generally do the same. I think one or two of a 24mm/28mm/35mm/50mm would be good, but not any two close ones. I think a 24mm is a good wide focal length. The Sigma 105mm is a good option, giving you macro capability as well. If you do not like it, consider the Nikon 85mm f/1.8G, it is fantastic.

I own a D600 and the lens I use the most is the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G. It's a fast lens which makes it good for indoor use, it's small enough to be unobtrusive for street photography, and it's wide enough to be good for buildings and landscapes. It goes for about $430 new at B&H. I also own a 35mm f/1.4, a 60mm f/2.8 Micro and a 70-200mm f/4, but the 50mm is the lens I use the most.

I have a 610 and understand your desire for primes. It is a great camera and worthy of equally great lenses. But don't discount quality zooms such as the Nikon 70-200 f2.8. It is probably the single best lens for weddings and it is also great for sports. The Nikon 85mm f1.4 is a great lens for portraits. I have no experience with it but everyone who does says the new Sigma 50mm f1.4 art lens is one of the best 'standard' lenses ever made. Your 24-85 is a pretty good lens for shooting street scenes. I use a Nikon 16-35 f4 for my landscape shots and have no complaints about it at all. The 14-24 is a great lens as long as you don't mind not having threads for a filter.

As long as your looking at the Sigma Art series lenses, you might want to take a peek at the 24-105mm F4 DG. A little on the heavy side, but nothing like the 70-200. I just purchase this one Sat. and have not had a chance to really try it out. High recommendation from close friend who has been using it for a few months on the deserts of NM. If it's anything like their 18-35mm 1.8 DC it will be something!

Nikon 70-200 f/4, Nikon 85 1.8 G is great as amehta has said, Sigma 35 f/ 1.4 is amazing. I also use the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC and the Nikon 16-35 f/4

For sports, weddings and portraits I would recommend the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8. This is a great lens and I seldom remove it from my camera.

I'm pleased that you pulled the trigger and got a 610, I did also. Having taken that big leap you should also take the leap and get the holy trinity of Nikkor lenses, 70-200, 24-70 & 14-24. The best 3 lens on the market for the 610.

Buying good lenses is all about how much money you want to spend. The best lenses are costly, and, with little exception, you get what you are willing to pay for.

Cheap is a question of desire.

Absolutely true; but also a question of financial resources. That is a personal decision.
Still, quality is expensive.
