I just puchased an Infrared filter to give this try on digital cameras. I have used different cameras, and different lens. The results of no matter what I try ends up the same. Namely a lighter circle appears in the photo. Example posted. Has anyone who shots Infrared with a filter using Hoya R72 experienced this and if so what is the cause and how do we rectify it? Thanks for you help in advance.

There are certain lenses that aren't good for IR. They have hotspots. this is a partial list of good and bad lenses for IR.

No I have tried different angles and it makes no difference. I have read the website referenced by sueyeisert and it helped me understand this better. I am now testing other lens and also the point was stated that the aperture you shoot can make a difference on each lens. So I will continue to test. I am getting better result. Thanks for the advise and help.

Another source for good IR lenses is Photographylife. If you go to their lens data base ,some lenses not all are rated for IR>here is an example http://photographylife.com/lenses/nikon-af-s-dx-nikkor-18-200mm-f3-5-5-6g-ed-vr
Another good source for IR information is lifepixel.com.

As others mentioned, probably a hot spot from the lens. I've used that filter with good results, but one of my lenses seems to behave the same way. I was fortunate to be able to burn in that area of the image to not be so noticeable.

One way to not get the hot spot is to shoot with the lens wide open.
