Hurricane Arthur, or How I Spent My 4th of July

Was right in the path of Hurricane Arthur on Thursday night/Friday morning. 109 mph winds with the eye coming ashore around midnight over the house. Given that, there was not much appreciable damage done except limbs down and the usual leaves and shingles blowing around. Since there was not much damage to photograph, and the storm really intensifying after dark, there are not many pictures to post, but there were windsurfers out before the storm - until it got too gusty and rough.

Glad you made it through safely. It would seem your screen name is appropriate for a big wind!

Glad to hear you didn't get much damage...do you live on the coast?

We live about 15 miles away from Beaufort, NC right on the coast, but we are relatively lucky having two barrier islands to our south and east that are part of Cape Lookout National Seashore that take the brunt of the waves, and some of the wind. I will be posting another set of a fire that we had to put out yesterday from someone who was burning storm debris and then left the Island to go home to their main house several hours away.

First, glad it was only minor damage and no injuries to anyone. Secondly, nice photos, especially of the clouds moving in.

It will take more than a 109 mph wind to blow this body to Kansas. :-D :-D

Just the nerves - they got a bit frazzled at the height of the storm. Thanks for looking and commenting.

Thanks for your kind comment. I wish night had not been falling (as well as the rain) so I could have gotten more pictures.

Very dramatic shots, and I'll bet those windsurfers had a great time!!!

Arthur here brought mainly much-needed rain and very little wind, with no damage to speak of. We were lucky. Glad things weren't worse for you.

The windsurfers had an absolute blast, and I am going to send them some of the pictures. We had the opposite of you - wind and hardly any rain. All the trees got really salted, so in about 2 weeks the leaves will be turning brown and shedding - again, and more raking will be needed. Even Hatteras Island north of us, didn't get a whole lot of damage. Glad you fared well, as it looked pretty nasty up your way on the Weather Channel. Thanks for looking and commenting Treepusher.

I've lived on the coast of NC for over 20 years, and have lost count of the hurricanes I have been through. They don't really rattle me much any more. I hate not having power and a/c the most, because the generator will not run the a/c and it gets really hot after a storm. I really loved the storm clouds with this one, as they showed the rotation of the storm coming. Thanks for looking.
