The Obamas Have Spent Over $44,351,777.12 In Taxpayer Cash On Travel
Article by / Ariel Cohen
The Obamas have spent over 44 million dollars in taxpayer money on travel and vacations. Some are even calling him the most well-trvaeled, expensive president in our nations history.
As Americans head off for the long holiday weekend, lets take a look back at some of the presidents holiday spending.
Our president vacations a lot were talking $44,351,777.12 worth of a lot, with most expenses charged to the American taxpayer.
As of March 2014, Obama has spent more time traveling internationally than any other president, taking 31 trips since assuming office in 2009. The 119 days spent overseas have cost taxpayers millions of dollars.
At the same point in their respective presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 116 days on 28 trips, Bill Clinton had spent 113 days on 27 trips and Ronald Reagan had spent 73 days on just 14 trips.
In 2010, Obama flew aboard Air Force One 172 times, nearly every other day. Just the cost of flying aboard Air Force One to Obamas hometown of Chicago reportedly hovers around $180,000 per hour.
In addition to all of his international travel, the president spends a significant amount of time traveling with his family. The Obama family has taken vacations to exclusive beaches in New England, private clubs in Key Largo and, of course, luxurious beaches in Hawaii.
According to the government watchdog group Judicial Watch, beginning with the infamous New York date night, the Obamas have spent $44,351,777.12 in taxpayer cash on travel expenses.
The actual total cost may be higher, as the White House is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act.
Here we have a president that gets on the budget line by line, but this apparently doesnt apply to his travel, president of Judicial Watch, Tom Fitton, said in an interview with The Daily Caller.
Frequently missing from the data are the costs of housing the first family and staff, costs of prepositioning the Secret Service and their equipment, and other travel expenses such as meals and beverages.
Weve got this financial crisis here in Washington and the president and his family need to be more sensitive as to the cost concerned with his travel, Fitton said. We are especially concerned about the excessive luxury travel, such as his trip to Hawaii.
In 2013 alone, President Obama incurred $7,396,531 in flight expenses for his family vacations to Hawaii and Marthas Vineyard, as well as a trip to California to appear on the Jay Leno show.
The Obamas are abusing the public trust and the taxpayers with unnecessary luxurious vacations and travel, Fitton said in a press release. These staggering costs show why these documents were covered up and we had to sue in federal court to get them. Another transparency fail for the Obama gang.
Comments;
Congress should deduct it out of his pension.
Whether you go to your ranch or you go to Hawaii on vacation, you still must use government planes, have secret service protection, etc. Presidents and their families have done this for years and it will continue long after you cease to copy and paste your daily diatribes on UHH. It's called business as usual...
Get a hobby, you could try photography, that's if you have a camera!
President George W. Bush spent over 124 million taxpayer dollars on trips to his ranch in Crawford, TX, and using John Boehners logic we demand that the GOP pay us back.
While trying to distract America from the fact that his own caucus passed a budget that would double the interest rate on student loans, Speaker of the House John Boehner is whipping up the faux outrage over the cost of President Obamas travel this week. Today, Boehner said, This week, the President traveled across the country on taxpayers dime, at a cost of $179,000 an hour, insisting that Congress fix a problem that we were already working on. Frankly, I think this is beneath the dignity of the White House.
Not surprisingly, John Boehner was totally silent when President George W. Bush was setting the presidential record for most vacation days. Bush was not only on vacation more than any other president. He spent more money on non-official travel than any other president in American history. As president, George W. Bush used Air Force One to fly to his ranch in Crawford, TX for vacation.

SO if that is the case, in 8 years of W, 124 million was spent traveling from Washington to Crawford, Tx. vs the $45 million President Obama spent. Sounds like a bargin, yes?

Great to see the push back. All presidents end up spending a lot for their transportation and security. The next president will too, unless they completely stop going on trips, vacation or not. Plus, you have to separate fixed cost versus variable. There is a flight crew on duty 24/7 for the helicopter and AF1. There are also secret service available 24/7. The plane, is always there, flying or not, so the depreciation, time based maintenance, cleaning etc., occur whether the plane flies or not.
I would think that 44 million, is a pretty lowball estimate.
Nice pictures all around. If I were lucky/dumb enough to take the job of POTUS, I would not feel obligated to use cheapo air. I truly miss Paul Harvey, at least we got the rest of the story.

Your use of an offending caricature photo of our president, in this case, an African American, is nothing short of what the Nazis did with publishing pics of Jewish people, characterized with big noses. All this accomplishes is a continued negative and racist attempt to belittle human life.

We all agree with you on Paul Harvey but surely you do not condone the couple to go on separate vacations and expect the tax payers to foot bills far greater than the salaries they receive. Surely you do not agree to that?

tommyf, is there a reason why you bring race in to it. You sound like a racist.
Oh yes, I agree with you taxpayer money should be spent wisely, but as you can clearly see by the chart above, this president has gone on one-third as many trips as his predecessor. Which means after a critical analysis, using facts in lieu of talking points, he is not the tyrannical big spender that the commentary makes him out to be.

Where did you get the $124 million figure spent on Bush's travel to work at the ranch. Looks like we caught you lying again.
