Can anyone say what the focus calibration procedure is for Canon 60d and super telephto lenses like the 300mm F2.8 ?
I've not heard of "focus calibration" Mr. Image, can you elaborate on this? What is the end result of it?

You are talking about body focus. It is rarely needed on a 35mm style film or digital camera. All your lenses are designed to create focus on exactly the same plane. Were one lens OFF, and the others IN FOCUS, then it is the lens needing its focus adjusted.
In either case, it is something best done on an optical bench, and by those with experience.
As an owner of a 300/2.8, I would add that these types of lenses often are designed to focus PAST infinity in their design. Mine is a manual focus, thus I can never have an issue that isn't my own.
With an autofocus 300/2.8, the auto focus system could potentially find odd focus, based on image contrast, from time to time. If you are enjoying wide open shooting at f/2.8 focus can be critical, and possibly missed from time to time. Generally, autofocus does very well, just not always.
Another thing: if all your lenses fail to focus, it is your camera. Take it or send it to a proper facility. The position of the lens mount has to be moved.

Check out Jeffrey Friedl's procedure and target at
http://regex.info/blog/photo-tech/focus-chart/Works very well.
I know the Canon 7D has focus calibration, not sure if the 60D does though. If not, and if the lens is not focusing correctly, the only fix is a trip to the lens repair shop. If all your lenses are off the same way, then the camera body needs a fix.

I would imagine that it does, as both my 50D and 5D MkII have it and it is listed in the function section of the menu.
I do not think that a 60D is capable of a focus adjustment. I just bought a 7D and that is one of the reasons that I bought it because of this capability. I think you are out of luck.
Thanks to all so far.... GOOD LINKS ! -- No, the D60 is NOT capable of focus adjustment- so, Is there any recourse other than buying a 7D or 5D ?? Can it be adjusted by Canon ? and if so how much $ ... Thanks, ....Larry
If you are willing to take half a step backward, the 50D has focus calibration.

Hi
It is my understanding that you cannot adjust the 60D for front focus as well as back focus Canon left out the program on this camera. ThatÂ’s a shame, maybe if enough folks could complain just maybe it could be in a future update?

Yes it can be adjusted by Canon. You will need to send both, the lens and camera body to them. I don't think it is very expensive, you will need to call Canon to find out.
I just Googled Canon lens calibration and came up with this video on YouTube where the guy is calibrating his EF 50 mm lens.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOjCiJN7T2EI have to say not for the feint hearted and not something I will be trying! I might try the micro-calibration using the custom functions, otherwise the lens goes back to Canon or a recognised repair agent.
