There are so many great on-line videos available that I don't think you really need a book. I've learned more about LR just by following along with the video with LR open using one of my own photos.
Adobe has a PDF Lightroom Reference available on their site. If you search UHH, you'll find links to many resources for Lightroom. I also found a PDF of keyboard shortcuts that has proved very helpful. Adobe has video tutorials and the ones from B&H and Adorama are good. Go to youtube and search for Lightroom tutorials and there are many on each and every imaginable topic from cropping to HDR to tone mapping and on and on it goes... And the Kelby book has many followers here.

There ARE lots of good video tutorials both on Youtube and the Adobe Lightroom site. That said, learning depends on how you assimilate info best. I find references handy for many things. I have Martin Evening's LR5 book and the Missing FAQ by Victoria Bampton. Both are excellent--I recommend them without hesitation.
I like the Scott Kelby book because you can work along with it on the computer by using his photos. Also, the online tutorials are very helpful. It all depends on how you learn best, by doing or watching.

This book is indeed a great place to start since it devotes quite a bit of time up front to importing and organizing.
This isn't the stuff you want to learn first but it is the stuff you SHOULD learn first.
B&H has some great tutorials. Lynda.com and KelbyOne have some really good courses and tutorials (by subscription). YouTube is loaded with stuff. Lightroom Classroom in a Book is good.
Also.....google Serge Ramelli .....he has lots of free (and not free) Lightroom tutorials.
Any thing by Scott Kelby. I have always found his material to be very informative and spot on.
I found George Jardine's video courses on Library and Developing (LR) best for me (mulita.com).
I also like Scott Kelby books (I also subscribe to the excellent KelbyOne training sites), but the best Lightroom 5 training I have seen is Laura Shoe's videos. She has lots of free LR video training on her web site, but she also sells what I think is the best training videos on Lightroom. I think she has a 30% off sale over the July 4 weekend if you would wish to purchase her videos. Watch some of her free stuff first, however, to make sure her style suits your learning style.

Look at tv.adobe.com. They have all sorts of free instruction on their products. And they are updated as the products update. You won't get that with a book.
