Hi guys!

I'm new to the forum. My passion (at the moment) is super macro, landscape, and lightning photography, all of it to show the beauty of West Virginia.

All of my photography has been with the bridge camera, Canon SX40, however I just replaced it with the Fuji Finepix HS50EXR.

I'll post some photos as soon as I explore the forum and figure out the proper place to post them. (LOL)

Just wanted to say Hi Y'all from WV!

Hi Diane - welcome to this forum. You'll enjoy it - it is educational, entertaining and a great place to talk photography and meet new friends. Curious about your new Fuji HS50 - I ear it takes really decent pictures and has a great zoom reach.

Have fun here! Doug

Hello and welcome from Florida. I've spent a lot of time around Charleston over the years and in Weirton (you may have never heard of that!). I have friends with motorcycles in Charleston and I would go down from Michigan (where I lived previously) in the Fall and ride 150 miles a day through the twisty-curvies of the mountains for a few days. Sometimes just two of us and sometimes 8 or 10. Get out there on a 45 degree morning and ride through the 65-70 degree day until almost dark and head home. Lots of good memories.

Both of your cameras are good choices and I'm sure you have lots of excellent shots to post. You'll find the "pictures" area rather quickly so go for it.

Meanwhile stop by anytime and have the Digest sent to your email so you keep up on new conversations starting every day.

Hi Doug,

Thank you for the welcome.

I'm a Canon snob (there I said it!). I was just about to punch the "enter" key to buy the SX50, when I decided to take one more look at the Fuji line of cameras. I ran across some photos taken with the HS50EXR, which I had not investigated, and was impressed.

My SX40 took photos at 35x, so the 42x reach of the finepix was nice, but not the overriding reason that I decided on it. What pushed me was the total, and true manual mode of the camera. Although the Canon bridge has a "manual" mode, it's not truly manual. I think that the finepix is as close to a DSLR, as one can get without the multiple lenses, etc. It's a HUGE camera. I'm very impressed the photos I've taken with it. I've posted a couple in the photo part of the forum.

ps. I didn't mean to sound self-important in my post. I meant to say that I'm impressed with the camera.

Welcome to the site!

On the home page, scroll down 'til you see "all sections." There are more sub-forums in there you can subscribe to.

I have the Canon SX50; actually, it's on its way to Virginia for repair right now. Apparently I wore it out with 50,000+ shots in 14 months :) It does "true" manual exposure + raw.

Glad you like your Fuji. I am a vocal proponent for bridge cameras as an alternative to expensive, heavy full-frame DLSR's.

A note about the Daily Digest: it contains only a fraction of topics posted. Photo Gallery alone gets about 100 new topics a day! I use "newest topics" at the top of page + a buddy list. Keeps me busy for about 4 hours each day - lol.

Hi Doug, br br Thank you for the welcome. br b... (show quote)

I once read that it is also manufactured by Pentax for Fuji. Pentax has always had awesome crystal clear lenses in my opinion, so it should really do the job for you.

I commented on your lightening post that I have the same camera. Linda has posted some super shots with her Canon SX50, she's great with it. I also have a Canon T3i with two lenses but I find myself using the Fuji most of the time. It's just easier than carrying around and changing lenses and does a good job too.
