CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF A USB 3.0 EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE WILL WORK ON A COMPUTER WITH ONLY 2.0 USB PORTS.

Most of them do. Check the package, most will list both 2.0 and 3.0. When used on a 2.0 port it just won't transfer/read/write as fast as on a 3.0 port.
MANY THANKS FOR THE INFO.
Yes they will, all USB components are backwards compatible.

Please don't use all caps when you write. For online use it is a way of shouting and I think we all can hear/read you just fine.
Thanks,
Dennis
As Wahawk said, they are backwards compatible, but to be sure check the package or go to the manufacturers web site.

Yes. But it won't be any faster than a 2.0 drive would. USB gear is backwards compatible and the devices will figure out what the fastest speed both can handle is and settle on that.
