Help in identifying mystery fungi

I noticed this fungi growing in my woods, and have never seen anything like it before. Does anyone know what it is? I live on the coast of North Carolina where it is very sandy, and the woods floor is pine straw and "live oak" leaves....very acidic. There is green "goo" inside the fungi that smells horrible, and it appears that these fungi come out of the puff-ball like nodules that you see at the base of one of them. Thanks for any help you can give me in identification.

I do not know what it is, but generally an Orange color is toxic when it comes to a fungus. I wouldn't mess with it myself.

I make a rule not to mess with things I don't know anything about, but thanks for the warning anyway. I thought it was very unique to say the least, and like to put names to things I don't know. I have tried to look it up on-line, but it's like trying to look something up in the dictionary....you have to semi know what you are looking for, to find it.

Good detective work MT Shooter.

EDIT: cool, my 300th post. I've never posted 300 anything before, not even on FB where my supposedly friends hangout.

In simple terms, a mushroom is a common name for the fruiting body of fungus. The fungus may be underground, possibly growing on the root of a plant or a buried mass of organic matter. At some point it sends up a fruiting body which releases spores.

Thanks MT, although I don't know how people come up with these websites. I searched a long time, and didn't find the website you found.....good detective work. Now I am going to watch the two "balls" that are still there to see if they grow stinkhorns also. If they do, maybe I can get some pictures of the progression of growth.

That could be interesting. Even better if they were close enough to leave a tripod set up and take a series of time lapse shots, fungus usually grows pretty quickly.
