Problem with Faststone Image Viewer

When I use the clone/heal tool, I get two circles. One is the one that corrects what I want to correct and the other sets off from the first by about an inch or so. The second one will put on the image what ever it goes over. So instead of healing I am adding colors that I don't want on the image.
Anyone have an idea how to correct this? I have deleted a copy and reloaded and it still does the same thing.

That sounds confusing when I reread it. I try this:

I have two layers of colors one above the other. The first is red and the second is blue. The background is white.

I want to remove some of the red. I put the circle on white and press control and click. I mouse over the red and where the circle goes it changes the color to white. But there is a second circle just below the first that is in the blue. So now where the blue circle goes I get the color that the first circle is in, in this case it changes the blue to red.

What version Faststone Image Viewer do you have? I have Faststone Image Viewer 5.1. When I click on the clone and heal tool I get one circle. I can change the size of the circle by rolling the scroll wheel on my mouse. I move the circle over the area that I want to copy, hold down control and click. Clone and heal copies what ever the circle was over. Now move the circle to the area that you want to cover up and click. The clone and heal tool pastes whatever you copied to the present location of the circle. I don't understand why you have two circles. I never have more than one circle. OOPS, I have to eat my words. When I click to paste a second circle (dashed line) appears showing the source point. After I click to paste and move the circle to another place to paste the dashed circle is invisible, but maintains its position correlated to the visible circle. If I paste again whatever is beneath the dashed circle is pasted where the solid circle is positioned. It would be best to reposition the solid circle over what I wanted to copy, press ctrl and click to copy again. Does this make any sense. It is a bit confusing. Just watch the second circle because what ever is under the second circle will be pasted under the first circle when you click to paste. Hope this helps. Have a GREAT DAY!

It sounds like you're using a cloning tool instead of healing tool. Try hovering over the symbol for the tool in your toolbox to see if it gives you options.

After some more playing with the clone and heal tool, yes, there is a selection at the upper right screen to select either heal or clone. Doesn't seam to make any difference which you choose they both work the same. Neither of the selections work quite like they should or quite the same as in other software. If you use these steps each time and repeat every time it works fairly well.
1. Position circle over area to copy.
2. Hold Ctrl and click to copy area under circle.
3. Move circle to location to paste copied material.
4. Click to paste.
5. Go back to step 1 and repeat.
The clone/heal functions are new to Faststone Image Viewer and will probably be upgraded and working better with the next version. That's not very encouraging is it???

I was trying to 'heal' a large area. I have a shot of my grandson and he has his arm up by his throat, parallel to the ground. I was trying to erase it, maybe if I use the largest circle it can make over and over again it will work.
Thanks for the come back, the ideas and the instructions.

They are both used the same way in Faststone. I haven't found any difference in them.

Thanks for the come back
