We had a mix of ice and snow here in Southern PA. It's sunny and everything is now melting. I decided to take pictures of the melt.

Nice pics. Is that window at the front of the house or the back? Either way, you have a nice view.

Wow, thank you for all the positive responses. I'm glad you like it. I moved into this house about a year and a half ago and I love it. You got to see the house to believe all windows and views. One side of the house is all windows. The picture of that particular window is on the side of the house and faces mostly South. It is the window in the upper left hand corner of the aerial view.

The house is hard to photograph because it's on a very steep hillside, hidden behind trees. Winter is the only time it's visible. I took a photo with 300mm lens from across the valley so you can see all the windows. I think of every window as a painting of the world around me.

The aerial shot was taken by a friend in a plane. If you look close you can see me standing on the roof. I was cleaning out the rain gutters.

The window is in the upper left corner.

That path looks so inviting, just have to ask, where does it lead to?

May I ask your settings / metering mode? I was trying to do this and could only get the outside (the inside part of my house was too dark)

any advice?

Thanks!

I cut that trail myself with a DR Brushwacker. It affords me access to the thirteen acres of land that came with the house.

It gives me views of the cattle and deer pastures that surround my property. I cut it so I could take my camera and go on short hikes. It's about a mile long.

The cz24~70mm on a Sony A900 at 24mm:

I had the metering at +1.5 EV to make sure the snow stayed white/

ISO=500
f/18 @1/60

There are many ways to achieve this type of photo. It's a classic situation for using "HDR" and multiple exposures.

Another way would be to use a bounce flash to light up the room. You would need to be careful to keep the flash out of the glass in the window.

That's not how I did it! I cheated and used PhotoShop. I simply selected the widow by drawing a polygon around it. I then selected "inverse", to control everything except the widow. I then used the curve tool to brighten up the room.

This was a quick and easy way to make the view out the widow appear as painting on the wall. This short cut resulted in some noise visible on the wall. Overall I'm pleased with it. Thank you all for looking and posting you comments.

I'm a transplanted city boy. Are these deer? :)

Seriously, the attached photos were taken of my neighbors farms that adjoin my property. I have one neighbor that grows crops just for the deer to eat. He has three blinds on his property that he uses to "harvest" the deer. I find deer very difficult to photograph. I recently placed two salt licks near my house and intend to use my house as the blind. Maybe when hunting season is over I'll ask permission to use one of his blinds for photographing deer. It seems to me that deer are nocturnal and eat the plants around my house at night. I have seen deer sleeping on my lawn at night. Maybe I could use a big flash but that would not result in a good picture.
