yes, one thing I did was levels on red, green, and blue. I used high pass filter in overlay blend mode lightly, sharpened,and did what I could to bring out details without being too harsh. And cropped it such it didn't look like the inside of a flower...
But mostly, I think it worked for me because it was a strange light that you get sometimes in the late evening after a storm. I was on a tripod and took a long exposure with low ISO and small aperture.

for the curious.. attached here is the original back to RAW default values and no crop. Only reduced in size and jpg for easy upload.
I shot the flower maybe 10 times before I saw a point of view that I liked... And forgot to mention above, it also got PP viginette and graduated neutral density type filter from NIK.
This is probably my favorite flower shot that I have done, but I can easily tell from lack of feedback that what I think is not standard thinking --- so it goes.
