Excellent picture of a salmon fly imitation --- all of the parts can be clearly seen, from the nice tapered head, the hackle, elk hair wing and tail, the dubbing, body hackle and ribbing.
This is not to be construed as a criticism, but the is still a barb on the hook.

Nice pic. May I ask how you managed to take this? Obviously thi is not being held in a vice. I want to learn to take pics using nothing to hold the fly like this
Looks like fisherman magazine material.

It's always nice to have people give you positive feedback on your work and know that what you do is appreciated and of value. They will not always know of your talents, unless and until, you exhibit it in some way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, with a nicely palmered style body hackle and correctly proportioned fore hackle and tail it should rest on the table this way naturally
Yes, a corectly hackled fly should rest on the hackle tips. But this picture doesn't apear to be doing that. I may be wrong though. I'd also like know how to do this with non-hackled flies like poppers, nymphs, streamers...

In response as to how you managed the fly sitting without apparently sitting, did you use a little photo majic? I see a knot as if it were strung for use, and if I were to guess; rotated a hanging fly shot and cloned out the line? Very very nice shot however you managed it. :) :)

Thanks for pointing that out --- I wouldn't have noticed or thought of doing it that way.
As the saying goes "you learn something new every day" and I'm learning a lot on this site.
I like to take macros of flies, and it is easy. Stab your bodkin through some black paper, and mount the bodkin in your vice. Then pierce the fly on the bodkin in a way that the needle does not show. If possible light from above and below. An alternative I have seen is to glue a short piece of small tubing trough a black background, and using a loop of thread through the tubing snub the fly to the end of the tubing. The back end of the tubing can be clamped in the vice. This latter technique allows the attachment of flies too small to impale on the bodkin. Keep showing your flies. I love seeing them. Maybe there are some other fly tyers out there.
