I am interested in getting better photos for group/ party photos and I have a sb600 flash. I wanted to get a flash holder that gets the flash higher to avoid shadows. Is the Stroboframe what most of the pros are using or is there one better. Also I would want the bracket to change when using the camera in portrait vs landscape. I am also using the RRS quick release plate and I assume that I would have to remove it to use the flash bracket.

As an alternative, look at Gary Fong's collapsible Lightsphere.

The Lightshpere will diffuse your flash regardless of camera orientation and you won't have to remove the RRS bracket.

I think the Stroboframe is very good, and the RRS option is better, though much more expensive:
1. WPF-QR: Flash Bracket with Fixed Mount
2. WPF-QR2: Flash Bracket with Sliding Mount
You will need the RRS L-plate instead of the regular plate, the BD800-L: L-Plate for D800/800E.

Using the L-plate is also nice when mounting the camera on a tripod or monopod for vertical shots.

The lightspere looks nice but I wondered if the shadow issue in the vertical camera position is still a problem

I'll check out the RRS frames but the sad part is that I got the flat base frame instead of the L- bracketr since the L- bracket is heavier and the other cameras that I got the L- bracket for I rarely used the L- part since I have a Acrotech ball socket head that I can lay the camera on its side and it is OK.

Yes, I think the shadow will still be on the side.

Yes I do own one. If I was not bent on rebuilding my flash system with Quantums I would buy a second one just to have on my backup camera. I do have an additional mounting bracket on the backup camera. So I can move the bracket over to that camera. I LOVE this guy. It is strong, easy to use, NEVER moves and it constructed well. I usually carry my camera around by the handle on this puppy. I had two other flip brackets. This one is the best.

I have been considering one of those Boomerangs for quite a while. Thanks Bobbee for the report.

FYI, They tend to have two models. one for a standard body and one for a body with a battery grip. Then, it has been a while since I brought mine, the mounting plate for your camera. It is formed to the bottom of the camera like a 'u' or cupped hand. It slightly wraps around the bottom of the camera. This is the BIG reason it does not move under ANY circumstances. Something I cannot say for the other brands i had.

Just thought I would mention this, I have the boomerang on my camera at every party I shoot. I wish it had the height to accommodate my Quantum Pilot. But I also have the Co-Pilot, which has a much smaller form factor, just less controls.

I have used Strobaframe brackets and they do the job but my favorite is the Custom Bracket.
