Since Kadair's Camera in Baton Rouge closed, the nearest camera store to me is 90 miles :-(

B & H Photo, if there is not a local store you can go to. Costco also has great prices and return policy if you want a kit they carry.

Alas, I must inform you that unless you live in a really large metro area (or are indecently lucky) the best you can hope for is the camera department of a: Best Buy; Walmart; Sam's Club; Costco or other similar place.

The camera shops here in Columbus are more photo department stores than camera shops. I tend to do my research online & buy from B&H, Adorama, & Cameta. If I'm in a hurry, I have an Amazon.com prime account & can get most items in 2 days.

But browsing and laying hands on the goodies to play before buying is so hard.

We are blessed here in Austin to have Precision Camera, a very large store with knowledgeable staff and everything in stock all the time. I'd rather spend a little more there and get good advice, classes, etc. Of course, I'm like everybody else, if the price difference is huge, I'll get it online... http://www.precision-camera.com

You should state where you live and maybe some one can help! They still exist, but a camera shop close to me will not help if you live in Seattle Wa.

OMG, Columbus has my absolute favorite camera store, World of Used Photography. Huge supply of studio equipment, clearance room, cameras and lenses. Focus is mainly Nikon/Canon (of course). Some rental gear. I drop in on my trips between Maryland and Colorado.
