After 35 years in the ER, Sarge, I can tell you you're missing many more opportunities for bandages, burn ointment, sutures, treatment of smoke inhalation, spider bites from the woodpile, strained back muscles, etc, etc, etc. Ahhh, but we boys do love our campfires.

A perfect scenario of a camping experience. I stopped once and figured out how many nights I could stay in a nice motel for the price of all that camping gear. I have never been camping since.

I sharpened my pencil too. I made payments of about $400/month on my motor-home for 10 years. I had 5 more to go. Don't forget the insurance, $200 in gas each time I went a few hundred miles, maintenance, repairs, tires, AAA roadside insurance (you need that - trust me), all the stuff you buy to outfit it, fees paid to camp, registration, vandalism repairs, break ins, etc, - I figured I could have almost bought a hotel.

Love it! You forgot douse pathetic kindling with gasoline, light, and apply ointment to singed face and hand.

My Boy Scout troop had an expert on fire drill use, and another on flint and steel. Those techniques really do work ........ for a very few folks.

When I was a kid camping my father would carry some birch bark from a white birch tree. It has enough oil so that it will burn even if wet, IIRC. Of course, white birch is hard to find here in the south. Pine cones are another good kindling, as were the old fashioned wax coated milk cartons.

Why is it only takes one match to start a forest fire, but 100 to start a campfire, and even then you might be cold because you only brought a hundred?

I'll have to make a copy of that for our Boy Scout troop.
Thanks.
