New York outdoes California

"What happens when a Governor decides the feds are doing squat about the illegal infestation in his or her state? Of course, they try, with the help of their own state legislators, to devise a remedy.
And what do the feds do? They step in and declare that immigration is the purview of the federal government or a federal judge deems the measure “magically” unconstitutional.
On the flip side, both the Washington Times and New York Post reported two days ago that the state of New York will vote on its own state immigration law.
The bill will grant illegals New York State citizenship, allowing them to obtain a driver’s license, seek public office, procure business permits and licenses, receive in-state tuition, financial aid and a cadre of other benefits. The kicker is, the bill will also allow them to vote in local and state elections.
Not even California has attempted anything this radical. It’s as if New York has traveled back in time to become an autonomous colony again.
You might ask. Where are the feds? How can New York get away with this?
Well, the Obamites have evidently dropped a die on the carpet below the immigration gaming table and rolled a six, so it must count, thus allowing New York to “play on.”
Let me go out a limb and just say, we won’t be hearing from the administration on this one.
The good news is that according to the Post, the bill has little chance of passage … this time around."

And I thought Kalifornia was bad. Just goes to show you.....

Not having heard of this prior to your post. Do you know if this is something that has been voted for by the citizens of New York, or is this a political manipulation that is being forced upon the citizens of New York?

And here I thought that Holder had sworn an oath, maybe he is confused as to whose constitution he swore that oath to.

My understanding is it that it was introduced in the New York State Senate.
The originator of the bill, State Senator Gustavo Rivera says, “Obviously, this is not something that’s going to pass immediately, but nothing as broad as this, or as bold as this, passes immediately.”

Ah, well, New York and Kalifornia. What can I say? the worst part is that I still live in Kalifornia. Thanks to obama and his policies, I'll not be able to retire for another 5 years.

Unfortunately, we must return to Northern California in August. We moved here for only one year, and all of our family and property is in CA. If it were up to me, I'd go back, sell everything and return to Alaska. But it's hard when you are seniors, and all of your family is in the lower 48. So, come August 25th, you'll see the tears on the pavement all the way back.

It is a real bill (Bill S7879-2013)
Requires the aliens to;

"* Present proof of identity.

* Has resided in New York State for at least 3 years.

* Has paid required New York State taxes for at least 3 years.

* Pledges to abide by New York laws and uphold the State Constitution.

* Attests willingness to serve on New York juries and continue to pay state taxes."

I believe the bill was proposed by NY State Rep. Rivera. That might tell you a lot.

Since I used the phrase, I'm assuming the question is addressed to me. To me, a New York citizen, is a citizen of the United States, who resides, votes, and pays taxes in New York. These are the people who are directly effected by new laws and should have input into their passing.

They did, they elected the legislature that will pass the law should it indeed pass.. As businesses flee New York and California one might think that the voters of those states would wake up, I guess that demonstrates the power of the treasury to purchase votes for democratic politicians... but in the end someone will have to pay the bill. Don't kid yourself, as the fiscal problems of these states worsen they will certainly expect that the federal government will come to their aid which Obama has already done, where do you think that $800 billion stimulus/infrastructure money went? It sure did not go to infrastructure, we all know that. Dems just can't help themselves, no price is a price to high to pay for political allegiance, especially when you are spending money that is not nor ever was yours to begin with.

I'm sorry, I don't understand your question. The last time I checked New York was still a state in the US, not a country on it's own. :?:

Lauren, political discussions in Chit-Chat often turn ripe with sarcasm... they can also get a little rough, not sure if you have participated in many conversations here just wanted to give you a heads up.

Thanks Blurryeye, I'm getting out of this one. I've deleted my response.

I live in NY, in the Catskills.
I guarantee you, that this bill will never become law. The state senate is under Republican control, and it will never pass the senate.
Remember, there are nuts in every party that play to the crowd. That's all that this particular nut is doing. It's a stupid bill, proposed by a biased politician who wants to allow his friends and relatives to come to this country, to his state, to vote for him. If he has to open the candy store to encourage them to come, so what. It's not his money.
