Cut all Congressmen's salary to $50,000 a year.
Each state provide their Congressmen with a MODEST house in DC itself, for which they will pay rent every month( each State to set the amount).
Provide each with Obamacare only (NO special privileges).
Provision for one full time staff member, the rest will come from interns.
How does that sound to everybody?

Sounds good to me! You might also want to add term limits as well. Enough of these "lifelong" politicians. New blood every 6 years will keep the "good old boys" from being entrenched in our governmental system.

We already have term limits - it's called an election. So who's to blame if the same "good old boys" go back to DC every 2 and 6 years? The American voter alarms me far more than the elected politician.

You have a very good point there.

The entire Federal employee system, right up to the president's cronies, congressional cronies and every department would do better if they were Decimated in the old Roman fashion, regardless of party.
what the Romans did was kill one in every ten of (a group of soldiers or others) as a punishment for the whole group. The other 9 had to do the job.
Perhaps than, the government will do the job they were elected to do, not their own very personal agenda.
Another brilliant statement for our official dumbass.

Suggestions such as limiting salaries and the like won't hack the problem of ensuring that each member of Congress just worry about his constituents and the USA as a whole. I recommend the book by Lawrence Lessig, entitled Republic Lost, in which these questions (Congressional corruption and how to fix) are answered. Overwhelmingly Congress is corrupt, because their primary interest is getting re-elected. That takes $$$, so guess to whom they listen. It goes far beyond the quid pro quo as it may be very indirect, such as sponsoring an opponent. He cites many other examples to prove his underlying premise.
After the candidate qualified and chose to opt-in, limit contributions to $100 /person, matched, four to one by the government. This is only one tiny, partially stated component of the strategy that he covers in 38 pages of text. He made this comment in opening remarks in strategy, because it happens to be one that 4-5 states actually supports. In itself, it isn't enough, because you need to maximize leverage on the turkeys to change. He also comments that if you just shut down all government staff spending over weekends, that money saved would be enough to implement his strategies.
Why don't we have a lottery for selection of congress? When "appointed" the term is 6 years, you get a great salary, life time retirement, and well rewarded. I would stagger the times for serving so there is continuity. Of course the appointed would be required to demonstrate predetermined qualifications.
While I'm at it, why not outlaw lobbying?
