I think the only thing slower coming to market than the Tamron 150-600 Nikon is Apple Aperture 4. Last rumor was that it was coming out with the Mac Pro; now I hear early 2015 if Apple does not turn completely to the consumer market before than.
Leads me to thinking I should at least start looking at LR / PS a bit more seriously. PS is a bit more complex (and costly) for my immediate needs so I'm looking more at LR.
First question that comes to mind is migrating my Aperture files into LR. I'm currently on a MacBookPro running OS X 10.9. Is this task easy?
Thanks, Bill
I have a Mac Pro Trash Can (latest miracle from Apple) on which I have iPhoto, Aperture 3, and Lightroom 5. The first two are interconnected. You have to export files out of iPhoto to a Picture file and from there import to Lightroom.

Do you use LR for PP & Aperture for cataloging?
I am still exploring how to use Lightroom 5 as a organizer and processor. I have 40,000 images in iPhoto where I am used to its structure and ease in making and purchasing products...albums, calendars, cards..etc. I rarely use Aperture although I might take my best JPEG shots and process them eliminating the need to export and import to Lightroom. I am Apple dependent so having images on my iPad and iPhone goes through iPhoto. I do use the images to tell stories...hence the old adage...Picture is worth a thousand words.
I have a local Lightroom consultant that aides me in learning the subtleties of the program.

That is really nice to have someone to bounce LR questions off of.
I didn't pay real close attention to the last WWDC but I understand that OS X 10.10 (Olympic??) is addressing how to share pics with all devices. OS X & IOS are still going to be separate operating systems but they will "share" data, pics etc via an improved iCloud. One story I read says Apple wants to let you start a job/project/edit on a device of your choosing, stop and return to the same spot on any of your Apple devices - OS X or IOS when you want. No word of how Aperture will participate in this.
I feel it will be interesting to watch this all play out.
I envy your Mac Pro.

The Trash Can is a marvel!
Mavericks had some initial device interface problems like the Epson Printer and Scanner Drivers which were soon updated. The hope for IOS 8 is that Apple puts the 3D icons back onto the face...our iPhones and iPad have not been updated yet.
I must admit that I do not worry about upcoming upgrades until installed...

Not a bad philosophy unless your writing for a computer publication or blog.
