They were originally "imported" in the 30s to eat river choking weeds and vegetation. They reproduce faster than bunnies on Viagra. Problem is, they eat like several times thier weight in vegetation per day...even "good" vegetation. So......the DEP came up with the idea to advertise them as edible game animals. That never really became popular. Well, except with some swamp dwellers who live off the land.
