Ellen, after seeing the second photo, I would be sending that camera back to Nikon, It's not you or the sun.

It is not under warranty the one that is, had a problem, the port on it broke, suddenly was too big for the cord end that goes into it use to upload, I sent it I have heard it arrived but so far word on when it will return to me, I sent the first picture I sent to this site to the Nikon Help desk so far no reply as to what they think is wrong with it, So I am stuck with this one for now. I took hundreds of pictures a few years ago in Yellowstone with it and had no trouble at all with the pictures. Thanks for your conversation with me about this, it is always nice to find someone who will try to help out in the big world of photography.

From the second pic I'd say it's almost certainly condensation inside the lens mechanism. It would be at its most visible when it's hit by bright light. If you think the camera's worth saving, it would have to be dismantled by a technician, but it would probably cost more than the camera's worth. Maybe it's time to treat yourself......

I mentioned condensation from your palm because I used to carry my compact like that from time to time until I noticed the condensation on the outside of the lens (fortunately it never got further than the outside surface of the front lens).

It looks to me like a. fog on the lens b. a loose lens to body connection, or c. fog under a filter from high humidity. Do you shoot good photos in between these issued ones? .......I would first take off the lens and look at it without the body attached.

It's a point and shoot, presently on Amazon used for under $40.00. It has no attached lens. It does have a little shutter that closes the lens off when shut down.

It appears to me that almost all pictures I take in what appears to be normal light, have some of this on the sides, there are some taken in shade or not as brightly lite, that do not have it. I would send other picture but I ca't seem tos ee how you do that now, thanks for your response.

This was taken a little later in the day nearly the same time but the sun is no where present in it.

ellen there's not much you can do about it. It's inside the camera. Unless you think you can get inside the camera and clean it. Other wise use it for what it is. Sorry but that's the bottom line. Till you get your other camera back. Just a note, often Nikon will repair a camera and send it back without notifying you. If it's in warranty that is. You can call them and try to find out. But I heard that doesn't always work out.

I did succeed in getting the other camera under warranty accepted under warranty and should have it back in a week to 10 days they said, I am so much more comfortable with this camera that is will take sometime to get that way with the new one ,I didn't have it very long before the port broke to figure out how is used better than this one if so, and I am not even sure it is!m It has fewer settings for taking picture, you mostly use the close up setting, it is inside a case that is waterproof so no lens goes out like all the other nikons I have had, can take pictures underwater even! It has auto boarding that make ever picture looked framed, not sure I like it but I don't' think I can modify it but not sure I understand everything about it either.

Are you using the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of the page? If you click on REPLY or QUOTE REPLY, you'll have the option to include 3 new images per post.

I'd recommend using QUOTE REPLY at the bottom of any post that you want to respond to specifically. That way everybody knows a) who you're responding to and b) the exact comments that you're responding to. That's how I replied to your post (I also edited it to remove everything except the comment that I wanted to respond to). You can respond to any post in this way - not just the most recent.

Here's a link to the SD cards the guys were talking about. You'll get cheaper cards (8GB would probably be plenty, but 16 is only a few dollars more, and you get slower cards, but not much cheaper - and most would say the faster ones are worth it). This is a link to the UK site - I don't think you'll have any trouble finding the US site, since Amazon seem to be all over the place lol.

I had a similar problem with a group of pictures I shot. I had changed my metering mode to center weighted rather than evaluative that breaks the image down into many sections...
