A friend just bought a Canon (T5 I think??) He is looking a the Tamron 16-300 lens and asked my opinion but of course I'm a Nikon guy and I've never used a Tamron lens so I can't offer him any advice. Any opinions here??? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Tamron makes good lenses. Google will produce many articles and reviews on this lens. Hearing from professionals who test equipment on a regular basis is better than asking a guy who owns the lens how he likes it.

Hopefully you will get some, "real world", opinions from people who have used the lens. I appreciate the fact that DXO and others show a lens is optically good or bad but the real use is in does the zoom creep when held in the lens down position while carrying? Does the focus motor constantly search for focus? While zooming is there an area which is too loose and then feels tight again? It is those types of little things that we all notice on cameras and lenses while they are in actual use. That is the information I look for when I ask for information about a lens.

Okay as suggested I did a google search and now I wonder which of these sites is being paid or receives ad dollars from Tamron or Canon or anyone else they review? I looked at a consumer review site and after reading the same review with three different people or names I'm assuming those are just phoney, I mean they were word for word. I tried opening the link you posted and I get nothing.

BTW Jerry do you typically tell folks looking for opinions just to use google? or is it me you have an issue with? Most who are capable of getting to UHH are quite familiar with Google. If that's the kind of input I can expect from you I'd prefer you just ignore my posts entirely.

Anyone have any experience with the Tamron 16-300mm lens? A friend is looking to maybe buy one for his Canon and I'm not at all familiar with Tamron and I shoot Nikon so I'm not a very good source for him. I asked in the photography section and was told that I should use google that opinions here may not be helpful. I disagree and would love to here what you guys think.

I can't speak to that specific lense, but, I've owned Tamron lenses and have been happy with them.

Thanks chrisscholbe I appreciate your comment. I think that lens is a new offering from Tamron so it may be that not many are familiar with it and I'm not real sure what review sites are trustworthy. I've always had a high opinion of DP review and they do seem impressed with this lens.
Thanks again.

Ol' Frank Loc: Orlando,

We got one for my wife's Nikon D50 as a walk around lens to replace the kit lens that was stolen. It is very sharp and works quite well for someone who is not all that experienced. She likes it and now keeps her hands off my Sigma. It is a good lens I believe.

Since this lens was announced only 4 months ago I would guess that there are not that many being used yet.

I think you may be right, I don't know anyone who has any experience with it but I didn't realize it was only four months old. Thanks

Based on the fact this lens is a relatively new release, Jerry provided the best advice in my opinion.
