Adjusting zoom lens focus point

Is it possible or necessary to adjust a zoom lens' focus point, since there are an infinite range of points between the shortest and longest length? Or can you only do this procedure on a prime lens? Or do you do it at just one setting on the zoom and call it good?

I'm not sure what you mean, but this might be it.

if you check the focus, middle and both ends it will be self evident.

The answer differs with the lens.

Not really. If you are shooting Nikon, you have one choice for AF fine tune, Canon has two. You figure where you spend most of your time, then optimize for that distance. For example, you are not likely to optimize for infinity focus if you are fine tuning a macro lens.
