Question about VC on Tamron 150-600

Ok, my back order finally arrived at our local photo store. This is the first lens I've owned that has VC (or IS, etc). How do I verify that it is working? Should there be any sound? I tried some hand held out the back window and they are blurry. I plan on always using tripod but, I want to make sure VC works and what to expect it to resolve.

And, I am using on a Canon 70D in case that makes a difference.
Appreciate help on this.

Not sure about the 150-500 but on my Tamron 70-300 VC it is obvious when in use.
There is a slight whirring noise then the image snaps to a steady image then when shutter released the image sways around again depending on how steady you can hold the camera of course.

I find it very good indeed and almost as good as the advertising says it is unlike some other image stabilisation claims

You should be able to see the difference when looking through the viewfinder. Put the lens on a long focal length (camera shake is amplified at longer focal lengths) and look through the viewfinder with VC off and then with VC on. Hand hold the camera as steady as you can. Things will look steadier with VC on.

I thought I saw a post from someone who indicated that Tamron had a fix for the focus problems reported re the Canon mount. Did I imagine that? I couldn't retrieve the post.
Thanks

There have been a few posts about this. Tamron has updated the rom chip from rom 100 or 102 to rom 105 correcting focus problems with the Canon mount lenses.

Supposedly the reason Tamron pulled their lenses off the shelves two months ago was to correct this problem. It appears that Tamron has now put the same lenses back into the retailers hands with-out correcting the problem, and they are recommending everyone send their lens to them to get the upgrade.

I for one am not spending money on shipping to Tamron because I can still return mine to Adorama. If Tamron ever gets their act together I might think about getting another one, but I doubt it. Finding it hard to trust Tamron at this point.

See this thread:

So far, Tamron is suggesting returns to them for upgrades on lenses with serial numbers 6100 and lower. Mine was suppose to be one of the new release lenses but has a serial number in the 5000 range so they are suggesting it be returned to them. Does this make sense? Not to me.

You should be able to see the difference by just hand holding your camera and turn on the stabilizer, then try it in the off position. When you try it in the ON position just focus on something rather far away and then remove your finger from the shutter. Do a half press to turn on the IS, then stop the half press. Do it on and off a few times to see the difference. Also, you can put your ear on the lens as you do a half press to hear the IS mechanism whirling.

Turn VC off when using a tripod.

Do this and take some shots with the VC on and off at shutter speeds in the 1/200 to 1/30s range. You should notice the difference in the images.

Return it to Tamron. I think they have been inundated with complaints.
I sent in a lens that sticks at mid point and they sent it back still sticking. Pissed me off for sure but they did clean it so maybe it was worth the shipping cost to get it to them but the sticking problem is one that is well known on the 18-270 mm lens so they just made a new lens with same MM but changed how it went to and from tele without sticking but those of us who own the original ones are stuck with something that takes good shots but sticks so you loose some shots due to timing trying to get the damn thing to work!!

Take a picture at a relative slow shutter speed with the VC on, then take one with the VC off. See if there is a difference.
