A few minute trip little known to many people. A few pictures taken all from one location in the park. Taken with a d700 and a 24-85 vr and a 70-200 vrii. Great time to see the falls while the water runs high. No post processing, straight out of the camera. Vermillion River. I'll be back when the sun is at a better angle for the water fall.
I've been through Hastings a couple of times and you are right; didn't know about a waterfall. What if is the building?
Nice shots, waiting for your better sun shots :-D
The building is on the original site of a grain mill using the power of the falls to grind wheat and other grains. I don't know when ADM bought it out, but they still process grain and ship a lot of soy oil from the site. I'm sure the mill doesn't rely on the falls any longer for power because the water at times becomes quite limited at times. The park is located on the south side of the ADM plant and an easy walk for most anyone. Some of the brick seen in my picture must date back to the 1800's. A water wheel providing free power would have been a big asset to establishing a town on the Mississippi named Hastings. If you look closely toward the top left of the texture shot of building stone you will see some of the original rock probably used on the first mill. Notice to the right, the natural stone of the area.

Thanks. The water usually isn't near this full. I would hate to fall in the way it is now.

I am still trying to get back there sometime when the sun isn't so high. If I do, i'll post something again. Thanks for the comment. The others were fun shots to take to remember, but I wouldn't want to hang them on a wall.
