I think the critically-thinking student body mostly stayed away from this presentation, having far better things to do. Judging from the video, it appears most guests belong to the 50+ age group, possibly having little or nothing to do with the university. It has become quite common these days for universities to rent out their lecture halls to all sorts of non-university interest groups.

The pledge was written in 1892 by Socialist Francis Bellamy and contained no reference to God. The 'under God' phrase was added during the communist fear campaign of the early 50's and had nothing to do with the founders nor, for that matter, any actual belief in God.



Atheists/agnostics/unafiliated (PewResearch on Religion and Public Life) make up 17% of the population and contribute 25% of all charitable donations; further, this goes directly to the charity and isn't filtered through the greedy hands of a church where it may or may not go to the needy...
