I'll be going to the Keys for the first time. I've searched the site but couldn't find suggestions for best photo ops. We will be staying in Marathon Key and I usually don't do wildlife photography. I like sunrise, sunset and boat harbors. Any suggestions?

I did a search, too. It's unusual getting a zero response to that search. I guess there is nothing there to photograph. :D
Try this. Go to Google Earth and zoom in on Marathon key. You will see pictures posted by other people.
EDIT: Wow! Almost nothing! Just two highway shots. Usually you can go anywhere in the world and find loads of pictures. There are dozens taken at Key West.
I live in So. Fla and have been to Key West several times. Marathon is in the middle keys and it is not far from Key West. I would suggest that you make a day trip to Key West as there is so much to photograph there. They have a lighthouse, old homes, old sailboats at the docks etc. As far as the Sunsets, they are fantastic. Being in the keys you can get sunrises on the Atlantic and Sunsets on the Gulf of Mexico. Not a lot of wild life other than waterfoul. By the docks you will see a lot of large fish and sometimes sea cows.
Drive to key west and go to mallory docks for the sunset it's a
Happening. Also all sunrises and and sunsets are fantastic. Check
the chamber of commerce. I know they have kayak Eco trips

Also some of the best fishing in the world

If you don't do wildlife you may run out of subjects early - no high ground, not much architecture, but the people might be good subjects.
The Keys are better suited to other pursuits like fishing, swimming, partying and relaxing on the beach.

Head south just across the 7 mile bridge, you will see a rest area / park on the left. (I think it was Veterans Park) Great spot for spectacular sunrises... All through that area, you can do sunrises in the east and sunsets in the west ... just have to kill time in between... We have a time share at Marathon Bluegreen and stay there often. Also, take the boat ride to Flagler Island. (It is where the guys building the Flagler Rail Road were staying while doing the construction. Great place to eat just before the 7 mile bridge (on the east side is the Sunset Grill... great food) Another great restaurant was at Key Colony Beach .. great Key lime pie, good prime rib and sea food. Where are you staying while there? We will try to give you better info.
Lots of great shooting spots around Marathon... You definitely want to take a day trip to Key West and take one of the Sunset Sails.. we got a GREAT deal on one out of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel (this was not in the harbor but was out of the Casa Marina Waldorf Astoria Hotel. We bought the tickets at the main harbor where they sell tickets for the others.. there were 4couples on this sailing catamaran with h'or derves wine beer and champagne and soft drinks and we were out for about 4 hours... It was extremely reasonable slightly higher than the ones out of the harbor but was so much better because they only take 4 or 5 couples. Note: Pics are not processed yet.. just added copyright so may not be level

To me, the most picturesque part of the Keys is on the north side of the Lower Keys, or just beyond 7-mile bridge from Marathon. It is fairly wild and undeveloped and offers sweeping, flat vistas over water and islands. That area is also great for sunrise/sunset, due to the nearly unobstructed horizon. You'll need to rent a boat, though, probably, unless you can find a good local guide to direct you to places accessible by roads (there aren't many!).
Between Marathon and Key West, there aren't many boat harbors (big ones, anyway), and the Keys aren't known for their beaches. Cranes and key deer are plentiful and easy to spot (wildlife) in the Lower Keys. Key West has great photo ops, if you can work around the tourists.
We just spent two days in Marathon and really enjoyed the place. The 7 Mile bridge was great for photographing sunsets and people watching it. Key West itself did not do anything for me. I don't do well with high prices and crowds, but was interesting to see. Lots of history with many photo ops. I hope you enjoy the trip, it was worth the effort for us.
If you visit Key West during Fantasy Fest you will find plenty to photograph!:)

Just leave the kids and inhibitions at home
As you will be staying in one of the middle Keys, be sure you take time to visit the others. While a Key is basically a Sand Bar, I think each is interesting in its own way. There is a fabulous Underwater park in Key Largo which will be at the beginning of your trip across the Keys. Great chance for some underwater photography.

Also, in Key Largo is a Motel/Hotel? that has a very good glass bottom boat tour.... they also have the Original African Queen boat in one of their slips.
