The only thing I can think of is if you are using an older Op. Sys. than Windows 7 it won't work..

Do you have LR4 still on your system, and does it still work?

What operating system is your computer running?

Most likely a catalog corruption during the upgrade. I assume you have multiple backup catalogs since Lightroom always asked to be backed up when you shut down. Create a new catalog and see if Lightroom starts. Hold the ctrl key and click on the LR icon. You should get a dialog box that allows you to select a backup catalog or create a new one. Create a new catalog. Once done see if LR opens correctly when you double click on the icon. If it does open correctly, go to File menu, Open Catalog and navigate to the location of your backup catalogs. Try selecting the most recent one. If that one should fail, try again with an earlier backup. Good luck!

Perhaps try to reinstall it. I feel safer buying directly from Adobe.

Almost certainly a catalogue corruption as others have stated.

Open LR whilst at the same time holding down the Control Key, choose New catalogue and see what happens.

I am running Lightroom 5.4 on Windows 7 64bit ultimate, on Windows 7 64 bit premium and on Windows 7 64 bit laptop.... think it is premium but not sure.. haven't had a problem except the laptop is VERY slow. 4 gb memory and 500 gb drive....

Your OS is not the problem, your installation is.

The control Key trick worked, I searched for LR 3 catalog and converted it to LR 5 and it opened thanks for all the help.
