Digimarc in Photoshop?

While looking at some things in Photoshop, I stumbled across Dimimarc in Filters. What exactly does this do? My hope is that it will put a "do not copy" watermark on my image that you can't see unless you go to print. Please tell me that's what it is lol. If not, is there anything that does this?

Digimarc watermarks are confusing to me also. I think you have to go to Digimarc and sign up and pay a fee to activate it. I am not sure but I think it applies an invisible watermark to your images that you can see as proof that it is your image. I could be wrong but maybe someone else could read the stuff on the Digimarc web site and confirm.

If I read their Web site correctly. You have to pay a fee. It will than track your image on the web. However it only tracks so many images and only so many times. It is some what confusing. However and this does take away from the image you can place a large semi transparent watermark or copyright into your image from most programs. Again it's not super pretty. Also some cameras allow you to embed info into the file and reputable person in photo editing would see this prior to use

Per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digimarc

"Digimarc is a digital watermarking technology provider enabling embedding of information into many forms of content, including printed material, audio, video, imagery, and certain objects. Digimarc technology provides solutions for media identification and management, counterfeit and piracy deterrence, and digital commerce."

You can Digimarc 1000 images for $49/year or 2000 for $99/year for the basic service.

I am really not so sure about this, but isn't that a bit steep? How many photos do you take for clients in a given year? I might be completely off base on this. I'd really like to know. Maybe this is a subject for another thread. How many photo's do most pro's take in a year for clients and is this program cost effective. :?:
