When did Nikon drop the price of the Nikkor 18-200 VR ll? I paid $846 last fall which is the current price in B&H latest catalog. Now I see it for $579. Any idea why?

Maybe it's the exchange rate?

I paid the same for mine and I have noticed the price drop. Maybe they over-produced them and now have a large inventory. It's a great lens.

I think the price dropped about 6-8 weeks ago. I bought mine when they were running a discount in February, the price went back up to $846 then dropped. Great lens, even better at the new price.

Nikon has been doing this for years. I have asked many people, and no one has ever given me a good reason. I paid over $800 for a N70 in the nineties, and the next year they cut the price in half. I guess they decided they weren't selling fast enough.

Me again. I wish I knew of this before hand, I would have paid another hundred and bought the 10-300 VR. (Still selling for $990+/-.
I do love my 18-200 VR ll, it has not been off my D7000 since we returned from Kauai in early december.

I did not know there was a 10-300 VR lens made by Nikon or did you mean 18-300 VR?

I think the price of the new 18-300mm, $900, put pressure to reduce the price of the 18-200mm. If they are the same price, who would get the shorter superzoom?

If you have more than 1 lens and have had the same lens on for 6 months, you aren't trying. you are in a rut, being lazy, not putting your brain in gear.

First, I meant 18-300 VR not 10. Second, I fortunately have several lenses, and another body. But my everyday walk around is the 18-200 VR ll. Shooting some of my grand kids at ball games later today with a 70-300 VR, but on another body.
