I've been around a few months, lurking in the background. I was a photography student in my youth and then life took over. After the demise of film cameras, I bought my first digital, a Ricoh. Good camera for it's time but I think the sensor was a whopping 1.2 megapixels. Until today, my main camera was an Olympus bridge camera that has performed flawlessly for me.

Today, I picked up a Nikon D3200 with both the 18-55 and the 55-200 telephoto lenses. I knownits an intro level camera but I am impressed. I think I'll be doing greatnthings with this camera.

Welcome to the Hog, ocpd44. You'll find a lot of friends & plenty of good advice here. As you've probably seen, there are a lot of folks here who will argue about which is the best camera. As long as you're happy with the system you bought, nothing else counts. How about posting some shots.

Welcome...looking forward to your posts. The D3200 will keep you satisfied for a long time. I started with a Kodak 1.6mp which did a fine job, but love the versatility of the Nikon p510 and D5100. ;-)

Thanks. The Nikon will get its first test drive today at the annual Tustin Chili Cookoff. If I get anything noteworthy, I'll post them.

Just a thought. I find Nikon manuals lack in many ways. Try looking for Magic Lantern guide for your camera model. I find them quite helpful and just good common sense information.

I found it on Amazon. I'll check it out when I get a chance. Thanks for the tip.

Photos or chili? Either would be acceptable. Any photo is worthy.

Welcome to the site. Lots of great advice to be had here. There is no such thing as a stupid question. You will enjoy that camera set up, I had a d3100 that I sold to a friend and it came with an instructional DVD. The manuals are not easy to understand. Looking forward to some of your photos.
