Does anyone know of a photo printing service that does this? The photos would be printed on transparency plastic with a pigment ink printer.

I still have part of a very old pack of transparent stock from the days when I used to make my own overhead projector stuff for the classroom.

Kodaks Duratrans is probably the industry standard. I recently had a 4' x 6' Duratrans style print done from this company that came out wonderful a a much lower cost that a traditional Duratrans print(it cost only $216):

what an interesting idea, I wonder how they would look mounted on a sunny window. Looking at office supply companies you can buy 50 a4 sheets for about €14. Probably would want sealing in a laminating pouch. But it does have the possibility of looking quite awesome.

I used to print onto overhead transparent film with both colour and greyscale images on a commercial basis, both by inkjet and Xerox.

Demand has fallen off since the advent of digital projectors but the materials are still available. If you have a home ink jet printer and want to try it, make sure you buy the ink jet compatible type and not the laser type.

The biggest problem is often feeding through the printer, and most makes have a "selve" edge at one end which is designed for the printer rollers to initiate pick up of the film to start the feeding into the printer.

I have also seen the transparent medium affixed to a release paper - I think Avery made them, no idea if they still do.

Some copy shops can still produce these very cheaply, but be aware the quality is not as good as a normal paper print.

Interesting idea! I think I would even cut a window into the wall of my office at work just to mount a vacation shot on it. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that the sunlight would fade it in no time. Dang! I could have been back on the beach!

Could be time to test these "archive" quality inks which are supposed to last for decades. Would they last a year or more? Chances are if there is a woman in your life she will want to change them once in a while.

A digital photo frame might be an alternative but you wouln't get the coloured light splashing on the walls.

My wife might want to change things? You think?
When I was a bachelor I could set something on the kitchen table and it would stay there till the end of time! Now I never know where anything is!

Try a local sign maker. Where I worked, we had a 48" ink jet printer and we could print on clear or translucent film.

Good luck.

Hey Robert, I've got a Fedora just like that! Same color too!
