And I thought Alabama had the prettiest wildflowers. :-D These are just lovely, Mike. I've never seen a bloom like the third one. So delicate.

What a great hike! Beautiful finds. I'm loving #2 for its bright color and #3 for its composition...and the fact I've never seen this before. Its beautiful and fragile looking.

Thank you all for taking the time to stop for a look and leaving your comments. I really appreciate it. These two pictures show a better view of what the Prairie Smoke looks like before the flowerheads raise up to open. Mike

What a beautiful white Ladyslipper. I have never seen a white one. Could you tell me what part of Wisconsin you found these.
Thank you.

Hi Donna and Carlysue, I searched a bit today looking for the natural geographical range of the Prairie Smoke. You won't find this in your area. It prefers a cooler northern climate and it ranges from Michigan and northern Illinois west to Wyoming and Montana. Mike

Hi Tachie, These White Lady's Slippers were found in southeast Wisconsin, in the southern unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. Mike

Thanks, Mike. There are quite a lot of plants that can't survive our heat and humidity. Some folks can't either. ;-)

I know! I spent eight years in Panama City, Florida. You folks are tough! I'll take our Wisconsin winters over your loooooong, hot, humid summers. At least for the near future. Mike
