Still having focus issues. Had to do these in manual focus. Not good with old man eyes.
Had fun none the less. San Juan Mission

I suspect a bit of camera movement as well. 1/100-sec is TOO LONG shutter duration to hand-hold a 105-mm lens. Your camera's sensor is good enough to use ISO 400, which would allow same exposure at 1/400-sec at f/16.
Exif info of image #1:
Camera Model: NIKON D7100
Image Date: 2013-05-28
Focal Length: 105mm
Aperture: f/16.0
Exposure Time: 0.010 s (1/100-sec)
ISO equiv: 100
Exposure Bias: none
Metering Mode: Matrix
Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto)
White Balance: Auto
Flash Fired: No

Also, there is nothing wrong with using small central spot Auto-Focus for insect macro-photography. I use A-F & VR for all of my hand-held macro-photography.

may be my imagination but too me it looks like your camera/lens is focusing a bit further away than your subject.

Thank you very much. I will give this another try soon. Haa. Hard not to get some movement when your standing on a fence. The blooms were to high to get a shot flat footed on the ground. Next time I'm gonna take a step stool.

Yeah. Like I said, manual focus with old eyes isn't good. Thanks for the advise though. I need a lot of improvement

Thanks very much. I'm pretty stubborn. I'll keep trying till it works. I some how got my 7100 onto manual focus and
I can't seem to get it back to auto. Strange
